Tra Co Communal House

The Tra Co Communal House was built in 1462, dedicated to 6 village genies who founded the Tra Co commune. The commune is named after the first name of two of the genies - Tra Phuong and Co Trai. This is also where Quan He (Nguyen Huu Cau) - a peasant leader during the LÊ - TRINH dynasty - is worshipped. Known as “Vietnam’s cultural border maker”, the building bears the typical architectural characteristics of a coastal village and contains intricate and subtle sculptures such as bronze incense peaks, tortoise-head-riding cranes, dragon throws and ordinations."
After undergoing years of fire battles as well as restorations, the house still retains its architectural features and art carvings as when it was built. Taking place from May 29to the end of the 3rd of June every lunar year, Tra Co communal house festival creates its own feature with the procession of gods at sea and the "Mr. Elephant" which is a contest among 12 pigs being cared for and raised by 12 men.
